Edit: Thanks to a long time reader and friend Niblettes, this blog is actually version v3.0. I must be getting old…

I’ve taken some time from blogging this week to do some long overdue spring cleaning at designsojourn.com.

You may notice dear reader that I have re-organised my blog page listings, categories as well as removed a lot of my “Chicklets” on my sidebar. I was told by the web designer that I had engaged that my page loading times are over the roof. Visitors such as you were experiencing a long wait before you got to what you were looking for.

These were a result of my over enthusiastic blog “pimping” efforts when I first started my blog. I joined tons of blog networks, added a plethora of blog traffic tracking devices. Thus my blog page had become cluttered and the additional “Chicklet” JavaScript made my once clean and minimal design code heavy and confusing.

I’m still working out what I need and what I don’t need, and will still be refining it in the next few days.

To thank you for bearing with me, I’ve included a little teaser of one of the potential looks Design Sojourn could become. Do leave comments, but please be gentle as this is really only the starting stage of our design study where the focus explores information layout and not so much graphics.

hi there. new design is better in my opinion…is more organized but for example I would stay with headline what you have now on curent blog…(this hand draw logo) is more fresh

2.0!! I like it. The decision to get rid of the chicklets is a great idea. Now that your blog is all grown up, you really don’t really need all that stuff in the foreground. You could perhaps put them all on a seperate page if you so choose. Just a thought!

Hi Zampik,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes i’ve always like the hand drawn look and will consider something like that but more refined. Its a different look from all the shiny ones now.

Hi Donnie,

Thanks for stopping by and your feedback. I realised that chicklets is a must in the beginning, but its only a phase, so I’m cleaning it out now. I realised traffic from blog networks are not as good as they sell them to be.

Leaving them on makes a blog look like a cheap car “pimped” with stickers to make look better. I rather have a Ferrari without stickers any day!

I like the proposed design! It makes more efficient use of space, especially at the top with a reduced logo and with the 3 columns. Is this optimized for 1024 pixel?

Hi Si,

Its currently not optimized but it will be. Yep, usage of space is quite a high priority, but my current concern is readability.

Lets see how it goes!

DT, i hate to be the one to break it to you, but your current blog IS v2.0. Don’t you remember your old, mostly black background v1.0 from about a year ago?? I do. You’re headed in the right direction. v3.0 looks even better.

Hahah, Niblettes, you are absolutly correct. It was black with a background of someone listening.

Thanks for the heads up. If you guys are interested you can find it here:

V1.0 preserved for all time, or until Google goes bust!

I like it! Very slick. I am not a big fan of 3 column designs but this one looks quite refreshing. One thing though, I actually love the hand written design sojourn logo than the one that is in the teaser. Can’t wait to see the full running version.

Hi Foo,

Thanks! It should be up soon. Also yes i’ve also decided to keep the hand drawn logo due to popular request!
