Launched more than a year ago, the Nakamichi Lumos portable DVD, designed together with Tithima S. and E Chin, for Nakamichi, has been featured in the latest UK version of the T3 Gadget Magazine. (August 2007, Page 18). Very nice. The design was inspired by premium leather ladies handbags and the tactile textures found on it.

I 2nd that!!! Maybe it’s the photo. Is that supposed to be piano wood finish? It looks greasy. Yucks.

Hah-hah, you guys are not the only ones commenting about the picture. Also the picture in the magazine is so big its picking up irregularities on the surfaces and dust on the paint job.

The actual product looks much better I promise!

I actually think it looks really sweet!

I have no idea how nice it would be to use since I don’t have (or need) another dvd player to compare it to. But I think it’s got a pretty cool look…almost vintagy. It’s right out of a space age bachelor pad.

Hey Drew,

The intention WAS to get away from the boring silver boxes these portable DVDs came in.

The difficulty was the mechanical constraints that made getting the design intent perfect. For example we wanted the product to be a lot thinner. Also those cross hatched were designed to be a lot finer and thinner, but tooling issues made the grooves bigger than it supposed to be.
