A warm welcome to you dear reader! If you have not already, why not subscribe to my RSS feed, or get my latest thoughts on Industrial Design in your Email Inbox for free?

Thanks for visiting and please keep in touch? ~ D.T.

Now for a nice change of pace, occasionally I get a flash of something that inspires me to take of an everyday product and re-design it with a twist. I had intended for it to become one of my first few simple easy to make products to kick off my other career as a design entrepreneur.

Well I’ve been sitting on it for almost 8 months so I thought it would be nice to post it here for some feedback. I may continue this trend by posting some of my other non-work related designs if this effort turns out well.

What could a busy self-respecting designer do? Besides it would be a great experiment in Viral Marketing would it not?

Avid readers of my blog (of which there just a few) and my friends all know I have a love and hate relationship of the Apple iPod. In particular I dislike its planned obsolescence, as well as its obnoxiously high prices. This got me thinking there must be a group of people in the Cult of the Mac that love the iPod but can’t really afford it.

Do let me know if you go into production…I have a couple of pals at Apple who I know would get a kick out of these very clever products.

brilliant… really amazed at the iPod’s influence, from people who adore it to those who can’t afford it.

Hi nil sine labore,

Thats exactly the point I wanted to communicate. Thanks for putting it in words.

Dude, I have to say the visual design is even more cleaver than the idea behind it. I really appreciate the way you didn’t just draw in ipod, but rather melted the plain surface of the ipod with the shirt color, only suggesting an ipod with its physical UI–it makes for a nice gestalt.

For those that are too poor …etc?

Couldn’t come up with something more proper.

And for these poor do you think they would spend USD30.00 for a Fashion T-shirt stating:”sorry i’m too poor to afford a real i-pod”

Waiting for your comments.

Hi Max,

You are absolutly correct! Nobody would pay USD$30 for a T-Shirt.

However, I am not quite sure where you got your information from though? If you go to the iPoor section of this website, you would find that in keeping with tradition of iPoor the T-shirt actually goes for USD$15. Personally I find this price very affordable for a customed designed limited edition fashion T-Shirt.

Actually I might add, it has always been at this price from the beginning. I was going to sell it for USD$20, but I managed to negotiate a better price with my manufacturer and thus passed the savings off to my customers.

I hope this clears up your confusion.
