DT, I think you need to add another category to your blog called “Mac Bashing.”

Honestly, though, this is really good stuff. The N95 is indeed a very impressive product, and for an extra $150 (over the $599 iPhone) it seems to give you a lot of nice features that I feel are: “duh. why would they build a device without that?”

I think there’s more too it than that though. Now I’m trying to defend apple here, but honestly the iPhone is all about its interface…which Apple is convinced is better than the multitude of fold-out button panels the comeptitors (like Nokia) offer. Perhaps Apple feels it’s worth it to sacrafice the extra functions in it’s first gen iPhone in lieue of ushering in a new era of sans-tiny-buttons/intuitive user-interface devices. I’m sure that as building costs come down, Apple will follow up with more features, perhaps first in a higher end model and then in all the models.

….Of course, we’re still waiting for an iPod with wi-fi or Bluetooth.

Hahah, no Drew, it’s not about Mac bashing. But I think in the last few years Apple has done very well in reinventing or if you like innovating mediocrity by making products easier to use.

When apple launch the iPod they disrupted the market with a product that helped people figure out digital music, and the competitors such as Creative were weak.

But people have moved on and evolved. I see that they are trying to do the same with the iPhone, but the big difference is the current mobile phone players are already doing a damn good job of it already. Nokia’s “Human Technology” brand defined what most mobile phone menus are today.

Consumers are spoiled for choice in a market of already great products. Apple’s small steps forward as a product priced as a competitor to the current market leader is woefully under spec.

However at the end of the day, these spoofs are meant to give Apple a reality check. However I don’t think Apple is that stupid, and must have done some kind of market segmentation and decided to go for it. So we have to ask which market is Apple targeting an will the interface and price do the job? Only time will tell.

Well, I think the reality check here is mroeso for the “Apple-can-do-no-wrong” populace who just assume that apple’s products are perfect, or at least assume that everyone else’s are inferior somehow.

Interestingly enough, I had my Mac Book with me at work today and one of our VP’s came in
and saw it on the desk. “Ooooh, that’s cool. I love those white computers….even though I just sold all my Apple stock that I’ve had for years.” This VP went on to explain that she and her broker feel the stock is plateauing and won’t go up much, (she bought stock when it was sub $20 and now it’s at like $125) and she’s been reading about the iPhone and is afraid that if it doesn’t do so well the stock will drop again. So, a good time to sell I guess, though I think the iPhone will be smash hit. If I had stock, I’d hold onto it until just after the sale. : )

Heheh I have been meaning to buy some apple stock as well! Looks like I know went to now!
